Woodburn, OR – The Woodburn Fire District is proud to announce the hiring of Assistant Chief Mike Corless who brings over three decades of extensive experience in fire service leadership to the district. Corless will step into his new role as assistant chief as the fire district undergoes a transition in leadership, with current Assistant Chief Jim Walker set to become fire chief on February 1, 2025, following the retirement of Fire Chief Joe Budge on January 31, 2025.
Assistant Chief Corless had a 29-year career at Clackamas Fire District 1, where he worked up through the ranks and finished as the division chief of operations. For the past four years, he has served as assistant chief at the Aurora Fire District. During this time, Corless built strong relationships with regional fire districts and emergency responders in Marion County—connections that will be invaluable in his new role.
Firefighting runs deep in Corless’ family. His grandfather, Ray Corless, was a volunteer firefighter for the Beavercreek Fire District. His father also retired from Clackamas Fire District 1 where his brother, Mark Corless, currently serves as a captain. The tradition continues with his sons, Austin Amaya, serving at Clackamas Fire District 1, and Jeff Corless, serving the Molalla Fire District.
Corless resides in Canby, Oregon, with his wife Krista. Together, they have four children and three grandchildren, with a fourth grandchild expected soon.
