The Woodburn Fire District has been busy over the last few days, responding to multiple grass fires.

On the evening of Tuesday, July 22nd, Engine 21 was dispatched to a grass fire off Wilco Hwy and Pudding River. Alongside the district’s career staff, volunteer and seasonal firefighters—who were just leaving their weekly drill night—were also able to respond. Their combined efforts allowed for the quick and efficient extinguishment of the fire, which affected 0.25 acres.

Location: Sunflower Street Area
Incident: High-Risk Grass Fire (2 Alarms)
Area Affected: 15 acres
Date: Wednesday, July 23rd
The following afternoon, Engine 21 responded to a more severe grass fire near the Sunflower Street area. This high-risk, two-alarm fire burned approximately 15 acres. With mutual aid from Marion County Fire District #1, Aurora, Silverton, and Hubbard, as well as the volunteer firefighters Mathew Smith and James Audritsh who brought additional water on Woodburn’s tenders, the team successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby homes and neighborhoods.
While these efforts were underway, the St. Paul and Monitor Fire Districts upstaffed in Woodburn to handle any additional incoming calls for assistance, ensuring continuous coverage and community protection.
The cause of both grass fire remains undetermined.
