The burn ban for Marion County has been lifted as of noon on Monday, August 21, 2023. Recreational fires and agricultural burning under DEQ and ODF restrictions are now allowed. The following safeguards apply to recreational fires:
- Fire must be small and confined to a fire pit or ring
- Located a safe distance from combustible materials
- Fire extinguishment method available and ready to use (garden hose or bucket of water)
- Fire must be attended at all times; extinguish completely before leaving unattended
The lifting of the burn ban does not apply to backyard burning. Backyard burning is NOT allowed anytime during fire season that typically extends from July 1 to October 1 each year.
